ORANGE
Paris-based Jakob + Macfarlane Architects recently completed the “Orange Cube” located in a converted industrial zone in Lyon, France. This magnificent structure is pierced by three large voids and is sheathed in an aluminum screen with a perforated pattern based on the movement of the nearby water. The building’s colour was inspired by the orange safety paint often used in these industrial zones.

PDAC 2012 Media Kit PDAC 2012 Media Kit
The Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) hosts the largest mineral exploration convention in Canada. PDAC2012 needed to create a promotional brochure that familiarized the press with the benefits of the convention and with Canada's mineral exploration industry overall. Working with PDAC's communications team, we started with a strong message from Ross Gallinger, PDAC's Executive Director. We then built a typographic architecture around the impressive statistical information regarding the convention's economic, aboriginal and employment focus. Attendance this year exceeded 30,000 delegates!

Toronto from the East
Tourism Toronto awarded H&W a wonderful project to create a coffee table book to market Toronto as a destination for Chinese tourists and tourism influencers. The 184-page book of photographs celebrates Toronto and its environs as viewed through the eyes of six Chinese photographers. The images provide a thoughtful exploration of our city and region, including the nuances of everyday life. The introductory essay, photographer biographies and captions were written by Doug Dolan and set bilingually in English and Mandarin. H&W curated the images, and worked with an overseas printer to deliver the hard-bound book for its launch in Shanghai in April.
